The House
Seasonal photos | Construction photos

Little Big House is Glenn Ridler's original design and construction. It was first conceived in southern California in 1968 to embody what an archetypal house should be. The house has three floors and 3,000 square feet, despite appearing to be a one-room cottage. The ground floor has the gallery and workspace, the main living space is on the middle floor and the third floor is a very large attic used as both a studio and a bedroom.

Little Big House is a sculpture inspired by conceptual artist Alan Kaprow's writings, Pop Art, Environmental work and basic post and beam construction.  The illusionistic, archetypal structure displays inventiveness and most of all humor; and is an attempt to bridge the gap between art and life. The utilitarian nature of the work, combined with its composition, is one of the unique qualities of Little Big House.

Little Big House has been Glenn's most consuming work of art. Construction began in 1972.  In 1995 an addition was added to the side and the back of the original structure for functionality. The vision was complete in 2005. It is meant to be an artistic expression and experience for anyone passing by to enjoy. People have been attracted to the house for many years. It has gained local fame, and received exposure in national magazines. Opening an art gallery follows a logical progression - from a piece of art to a space for the public to view art. See photos.

Little Big House was completed in 2005 with the installation of an iconic stone walkway lined with plants. A gallery space was created in 2006. Glenn's wire figure sculpture series, DA MUSE, was the featured work at Little Big House Gallery's grand opening in June of 2006.
